This custom equestrian barn was constructed as a purpose-built facility where durability, safety, and day-to-day horse operations drove every decision. The structure used heavy timber framing and a steel roof system for long spans, minimizing interior posts and creating clear, flexible stall and aisle layouts. Exterior cladding combined vertical wood siding with a masonry base to handle splash, impact, and moisture at grade, while also extending the building’s service life. Deep overhangs and covered walkways were built in to control rain exposure, reduce mud at stall fronts, and improve year-round usability.
Inside, materials were selected for abuse tolerance and maintenance control. Wide plank wood flooring and wall cladding were installed for strength and repairability, while brick and masonry accents were used in high-contact areas to resist kicking and wear. The bar and lounge spaces were framed and finished separately from animal zones to control noise, dust, and moisture migration. Coffered metal ceilings with recessed lighting were installed to improve fire resistance, provide easy access to services, and maintain consistent illumination without exposed fixtures. Ventilation, drainage, and washroom layouts were integrated early in construction to support humidity control and biosecurity. Overall, the barn was built to function first, age well, and still feel intentional—because horses are hard on buildings, and this one was designed to keep up.
